The Mayor, leading Calgary’s pride parade, took a moment to refer to a proposal in a “certain part of our country” that threatens to undercut our economic prosperity. You don’t have to extend that thought process out much further before you get to “Hey, maybe the province should be its own country or something.”Īmid all the eggshell prancing, however, came a refreshing blast of mockery aimed the PQ’s way, courtesy of Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi. But this is a rare instance where a circumspect politician treads lightly not out of fear of electoral consequences (as is typically the case), but out of an understanding that Quebec separatists love it when politicians from the Rest of Canada criticize them.
